Shortly after the band was formed, they returned to – or rather, moved to – Mexico, where they worked their way up from small venues. The release of their first, self-titled album in 2012 brought them immediate, massive success, thanks in part to the two hits “Verde Más Allá” and “Me Voy a Ir”. Since then, the band has become an integral part of Mexico’s major stages and festivals, and in the years that followed, they went on to conquer neighbouring countries, including the USA.
In 2017, the band took the logical next step into continental Europe and beyond the Spanish-speaking world. With their first two tours, which took the band to Germany, Austria and Switzerland, the album “Mar Abierto/Open Sea” and the singles and videos released from it for “La Diabla”, ‘Verde Más Allá’ and ‘Tanto Tiempo’, the band made a strong impression, thrilled concert-goers, secured numerous radio plays and remained in the Top 50 of the German DJ Charts for months on end.
Indeed, alongside influences from traditional Latin American music, cumbia, rockabilly, jazz and reggae, the Mexicats’ music is usually absolutely perfect for dancing. As a result, their concerts inevitably turn into lively parties.
In keeping with this spirit, at the start of the ‘X.’ anniversary year, the song ‘Aprendimos’ from the ‘Mar Abierto/Open Sea’ album is now being released as a radio single with a video, to be released on 26 January via GMO – The Label. Of course, the choice of this single is by no means a coincidence; in keeping with the anniversary, the song’s lyrics explore the band’s origins and history (Aprendimos = We have learnt).

Another highly danceable single, accompanied by a music video that looks back on the band’s first 10 years, thereby heralding their anniversary year and announcing their upcoming tour. This tour will take the band to Belgium and the Netherlands for the first time, as well as once again to Germany’s major cities and urban centres, Switzerland and Austria. The first dates will be announced shortly.
The entire Mexicats anniversary year will be accompanied by the hashtag #mexicatsX.
