The new album expands on Mexicats’ existing sound, partly thanks to their collaboration with fellow artists. The album title itself hints at the fusion of traditional and modern elements. Songs such as ‘La Cumbia del Vino’ and the Selena cover ‘Si una Vez’ fall within the traditional genre.
New influences can be heard in tracks such as ‘Sonido De Tu Voz’ (Prince-style grooves and cool vocals), ‘La Oportunidad’ (that bass!), ‘Ancestral’ (Jenny raps and the track could be from a film soundtrack) and ‘Correr’ (which has a bit of a B52s feel to it).
And, of course, through their collaborations with Spain’s number one alternative rock band, ‘Vetusta Morla’, on the lead single ‘El Télon’, and with the popular Spanish singer-songwriter El Kanka on the track ‘Bailando con las Farolas’. Both collaborations have brought the band a great deal of additional attention and popularity amongst Spaniards all over the world.
